Cardinals Force the Pirates to Walk the "B"lank

6/13 Schenectady, A-Diamond; The marauding Cardinals trekked up from Kingston last night, and forced the Pirates to walk the "b"lank, with an 8-0 whitewashing. The Red Birds rode the superlative pitching of Al Freer and Bill Chichester, allowing 4 hits, and no walks, and the gold glove caliber plays of 3B Pete Zamory, and SS Don Shultis. Freer and Chichester also showed they've been getting a fair amount of PFP, with snaring 2 line shots targeted for centerfield

The Pirates looked like they may be ready to bring out the big cannons in the 1st, with EJ Seney and Paul Peters singles setting the table. Chichester would have none of it. Getting a line-out and a K, to kill the Bucs only real threat of the night.

The Swashbucklers SP, Jimmie Dalton, was some of his own undoing, with a costly E-1, as the Cards plated three in the bottom of the 1st frame. That was all the runs the Cardinals would need. Cruising to the W, improving to 6-3 while Buccos continue to struggle, dropping to 1-6. Dalton would prove to be the hard luck loser, giving up 3 Earned Runs in a complete game effort, his 5th of the season. Five Pirate errors came at a cost, and this Cardinal team knows how to capitalize on mistakes!

Mark Josefski was the catalyst for the Birds all night, getting a 1st inning free pass, and then 2 more hits, a run and stolen bag. Freer was 2-3 and a run scored, and Zamory, had 2 long at bats (must have fouled off a combined 10 pitches), and knocked in 2 ribeye steaks!
