Call it a hangover from our March trip to San Antonio (seven Pirates went), but we came out wearing our hitting shoes. Big night for Richie Knaupp in particular, who went 3-3 with two BOMBS that would have cleared the fence (if a fence had only been there). Newcomers John Comensky, Jimmy McQuade, and Steve Lounello all contributed hits in their first game with the team: Great guys, they'll help us a lot.
Kane started for the Pirates and threw five innings, gave up four hits, had nice pop and a great curveball. Totally in command. Steve Lounello, coming off shoulder surgery, made it back on the hill and threw two hitless innings. Not dominant, but a nice step in the right direction.
My wife was making fun of me this morning. She told Maggie, age five, how Daddy came home (smelling of beer) and the first thing he said was, "I love my team."

For the Hummingbirds, they are going through some changes and were rough around the edges. My bet is that Jerry Hawkins will have that group clicking along like always, playing good baseball, as the season progresses. They uncharacteristically kicked the ball around a bit last night. It's early.
