The Matinee Division hit the road this week and played our game on Doubleday Field in Cooperstown on an overcast but still perfect day for baseball. Bob Bolt got the start on the mound for the Good Guys and only allowed a single run in five innings of work. The Good Guys were able to push a single run across in the first and then four more in the third, highlighted by a 2-out, 2-run single by Tim Brown. After scoring two more runs in the top of the fourth the Good Guys had a seemingly safe 7-0 lead. But as is usually the case in the Matinee Division these games are close, and this game was no different as the Bad Guys stormed back in the later innings. With Mike Girard now on the hill and shutting the Good Guys down the Bad Guys chipped away and the game was suddenly a 10-8 nail bitter in the bottom of the eighth after Mike LaBarge had his second two-out RBI hit. The Good Guys then turned to Ron Massaroni looking for a 4-out save and were able to get out of the eighth inning with no further damage. After a scoreless ninth inning the Good Guys escaped with the victory. Thanks to Jimmy K. for coordinating this event for us!
