Friday night at New Scotland, the Cubs and Americans got together for a ballgame on a nice Spring night. The field was in great shape, and the evening was as good as we have seen since the season started.
The Cubs bats rung out 19 hits in 4 innings off of 3 Americans pitchers. These 19 hits along with 4 walks, produced 19 runs. Ron Lochner and Jim Bonaparte both went 3 for 3 to lead the way for the Cubs' offense. Alex Marin, Tony Parella, Jerry Rosen, Mike Girard, and John Coulombe all added two hits each.
On the defensive side, Mike Girard and Jim Bonaparte combined on a two hitter, for the Cubs. The only hits for the Americans came in the top of the 4th, when Vinnie Koster and Rich Garbarino singled. Garbarino's singled plated the only American's run. Bonaparte then induced a 6-4-3 double play to end the inning.
It was great to get out and play on a nice Friday night at New Scotland, and the American are a great group of guys. We all enjoyed a post game cooler session until it got too dark.
Next up for the Cubs is a Thursday night game at the A-Diamond vs the always tough Dodgers. Next up for the Americans is a meeting with the Giants next Friday night at the B-Diamond.
