The Pirates jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top half of the first inning capitalizing on 2 errors, 2 walks, and 2 hits. The Arachnids regrouped in the bottom of the inning and scored 4 times to take the lead they would not relinquish. 2 more runs in the second gave the home team a 6-3 lead and it stayed that way until the 5th when the Spiders put up 5 more runs to make it 11-3, the final score. Pirates had 5 hits led by Kim Burns who had 2 hits. Arachnids collected 12 hits . Darrell Duncan (2 triples), Kenny Wellington (2 doubles), Mike Ruslander (double), and Don Wixon had 2 hits each. Rick Knipper took the loss in relief and was very effective in his first three innings allowing 2 runs, 1 earned, and just 2 hits while striking out 3. Knippers 4th and final inning on the mound saw his opponent's pounce for 5 runs on 5 hits and a walk. John Newman, making his first appearance since a heart attack in 2021 was the winning pitcher in relief. 3 Pirates threw 139 pitches over 6 innings while 3 Arachnids pitchers threw 104 pitches over 7 innings.
