6/5/23 Watervliet High School . Excellent infield conditions. Outfield hard and fast. Very light breeze and high clouds. Great baseball weather. The Arachnids score first as the second batter of the game, Kenny Wellington, turns a hanging curve into an inside the park home run with a Titanic shot high and deep to right off Americans starter Scott Ross. The riled up Americans take a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the inning via 3 singles by Scott Ross, Vinnie Koster, and Mike Kane off Spiders starter Darrell Duncan. Fast forward to the top of the 5th. Wellington walks, Duncan singles, infield fly rule pop by Madsen, Ross Ks Wing for the second out, TJ Scorsone singles knocking in Wellington, Wayne Nicholsen draws a walk on 7 pitches to load the bases. Switch hitting Joe Parker strides to the plate and sends the first pitch onto the hill in left center for a double clearing the bases. 5-2 Arachnids. Americans chip away adding a run in the bottom of the 5th on a walk to Kane, a single by Ralph Caputo, and an RBI single by Mike LaBarge. Kane relieves Ross and holds the Arachnids in check in the 5th and 6th yielding singles to Edelman and Madsen. Jimmy Konstantakis relieves Kane(tendon strain) in the 7th and allows 1 run on a walk to Nicholsen and singles by Parker and Mike Ruslander. The Americans have one last shot in the bottom of the 7th facing lefty reliever Wellington who came on in the 6th. Ross gets a 1 out single. Mike Aiello walks, Vinnie Koster reaches on a fielders choice as Aiello is forced at 2nd as Madsen dives to spear the grounder up the middle and laterals the ball to Scorsone covering. Mike Kane follows with a big 2 out single scoring Ross making it 6-4. Kane at first, Koster at second, Ralph Caputo at the plate. Count goes to 1 ball 2 strikes. Caputo digs in, Wellington drops a beautifully placed breaker that Caputo had a great cut at but it was not to be. Game ends. Arachnids win 6-4 and improve to 4-1 in the 62s. TidbitsArachnid pitchers delivered 102 pitches over 7 (Duncan 59 P, 5 H, 3 R, 1K, 1BB, over 5 innings, and Wellington 43 P, 3 H, 1 R, 1 K, 2 BB, over 2) and Americans threw 132 (Ross 82, 6 H, 5 R, 4 BB, 3Ks, over 4, Kane 26 P, 2 H, over 2, and Konstantakis 24P, 2 H, 1BB, 1 R, over 1). Time of game 2 hours 15 minutes. 8 hits for the Americans with 2 singles each for Ross and Kane. Arachnids had 10 hits with 2 hits each for Madsen and Parker. Vinnie Koster played an outstanding short for the Americans snagging several hard hit balls deep in the hole and making outstanding throws to nail Spider runners at 1st. Both teams left 7 runners on base, the game registered 1 error and that was by the Arachnids.
