The Matinee Division kicked off the 2023 season today at the A Diamond in Schenectady on a hazy, smokey overcast day with 24 players in attendance. Joe Careccia led off the game with a line drive single to center and eventually came around to score giving JKs team their first and only lead of the day. McQs team answered with two runs in the bottom of the first and took the lead back, which they would not relinquish. Great pitching and solid defense limited JKs team to only one more run as McQs team cruised to a 10-2 nine-inning victory. Matt Miles, Jerry Solomon and Jerry Rosen combined to limit JKs potent lineup to the two runs as they worked around several hits including the loudest when Rick Saidenberg led off the seventh with a booming triple to right. Careccia, Saidenberg, TJ Scorsone, Ralph Caputo and Mike LaBarge all pitched well in defeat as McQs team was never able to put up a big inning. Greg Mangione led the way for McQs team with three hits and four runs scored while Rosen added two hits and three RBIs.
