Life is always bigger than baseball. Mike is always one for putting some creative recaps for games played on this board. Last night the 55 yankees played the cubs , and Mike wasnt there. It was kind of strange him not being there. But the yankees team and myself send out prayers and wishes to mikes wife Martina for a speedy recovery. On the field we are opponents, but off the field we are a brotherhood and should always be supportive. Prayers and good luck brother. LEX
Thanks Lex and Mike. For you who did not already know, my wife (Martina) had a heart attack in the early morning hours, Tuesday. She was in getting a catheterization when the Yankees vs Cubs game was going on at WHS. Lori Lochner was feeding me recaps inning by inning, as I was in the Cat Lab waiting room at St. Peters. The Cubs were appraised of the situation, and played that game for my wife and I. As soon as I heard that she came through with flying colors, I passed that message on to my boys, through Lori.
The Cubs, behind the hitting and pitching of Chris Dunn, won the game 3-0. Chris threw a complete game shut out, giving up just 5 hits (all singles) and 1 walk, while striking out 2. Chris singled and stole second, in the first, and scored on a Dave Mitchell RBI single. Chris also doubled and scored the second run, in the 3rd inning. Andy Hoyle drove in the 3rd and final Cubs' run of the game, later that inning.
Lex had 2 of the Yanks' 5 singles, and pitched a fine game of his own. He gave up just the 3 runs, on 8 hits and no walks, while striking out 4.
Gentleman Jim McQuade ran the team, in my absence and did a great job. Thanks, buddy! I love you like a brother! Thanks to all who prayed for my wife and I, and others who have called to check on us after they heard what had happened.
Jesus was with us the entire time and got us through. His presence was palpable. It was scary when they revealed that she had an 80% blockage of the widow maker artery, and 99% blockage of t first main tributary artery, but all were cleaned out and 2 stents were installed. She is home and feeling better than she has in years.
Thanks for all of the love and support. My baseball family is very important to me!

We are tricking time, stealing athletic challenges and accomplishments from Mother Nature. No one of us is more distinguished in this regard as Mike Girard. He defies time and nature as he seems to improve as he ages. Yet, the one person who is more robust and tenacious than Mike is Martina. We are with you. You go, girl!
Mike, God has honored the faith you and Martina hold dearly in your everyday lives - deservedly so! So happy for the outcome. Prayers to you both and your families. jk
