55 Americans and Twins to the Wire

A tale of 2 games at the Twin Town facility across from La Selle Academy last night. The Americans came out strong scoring 6 runs in the first 2 innings on 2 hits and 5 Twins errors . It appeared that the Americans might make it a mercy game. The Twins had 9 rostered and one borrowed player and many were playing unfamiliar positions. Jeff Whitehead, the only pitcher the Twins had hung tough and allowed just one hit and zero runs over the final 5 innings to pick up a very gutsy win. The home team started its long climb back with a run in the bottom of the second, another in the 3rd, 2 runs in the 4th and 5th, and pushed the winning run across in the bottom of the 7th with 2 outs when Terry McCarthy drove Whitehead home . Frank Owens opened the bottom of the final inning lining out to short, Whitehead singled, Ricky Saidenberg sac bunted Whitehead to second, cleanup hitter Joe Parker was intentionally walked with 2 outs, deceptively speedy Greg Briscoe hit an infield single, and Terry McCarthy knocked Whitehead home with another infield single deep in the hole at shortstop. Everybody was moving. Defensive play of the game was made by Dave Plew in right field when he ran down long line shot at the fence off the bat of Saidenberg and then threw to first to double off Whitehead in the 3rd inning. Barry Jackson pitched the entire game for the Americans surrendering 13 hits and struck out 3. TJ Scorsone and Mark Finelli each had a double for the Americans. Whitehead allowed just 3 hits, 3 walks, 1 hit batter, while striking out 6. Leading the offense for the Twins were Whitehead three hits, Greg Briscoe, Joe Parker, and EJ Seney(borrowed) with two hits each. The Twins committed an eye popping 9 errors and the Americans had 3. The Americans are a formidable team with many good hitters, and Barry Jackson is a much better pitcher than the stats indicate for this game. The Twins did not have an easy time against him. His pitches are live and hes always around the plate.
