Wing and a prayer

Jim Wing, one of the CDMSBL's ''good guys'' went down in a heap after wrenching his knee running to first base in the 62s Arachnids vs. Yankees game at New Scotland last night.

He spent the morning at the local Bone & Joint Center and has a partially torn meniscus. He received a cortisone shot to ease the pain and is hoping with rest to return to the game...once again. Jim suffered a serious eye injury at a Florida tournament a few years back and nobody expected him to return from that, but there he was last fall helping the Arachnids to a 62s championship with his big bat and solid play at catcher and second base.

JW had to depart after his first inning injury and missed a classic barn-burner between these two rivals. Arachnids held on for 4-2 win as TJ Scorsone came on with two outs and runners on second and third in the bottom of the 7th to get the final out, after Wayne Nicholson continued his mastery over the 2-time champion Yankees with 6 2/3 dominating innings.

I know I speak for anyone who has ever suited up with, or against, Jim Wing that our prayers are with him for a speedy recovery and hope to see him back on the field again this summer.

Jim - Tim's right in all he says about you.

I'm guessing, I don't know, that there may be some hope yet for you to play this season. I say that because I've had three
postseason meniscus surgeries, two on my right knee, one on my left, and those were fully torn.

But Tim says you sustained a "partially torn" one. I'm hoping that's a small "partial" and it means with some rest, wraps, heat, cold
and pills you can come back this year. There are guys who'll read this and know better than I what the odds are with a partial tear.
I hope they're high.

Come back, kid.

-Mike

If Jim's eye injury (at the MSBL World Series in Phoenix) didn't deter him from playing,
a partially torn meniscus certainly won't keep him from playing. The over/under on his return is 4 weeks.
I'll take the under.
