The 2-0 Cubs met the 2-0 Dodgers last night at the A-Diamond for a battle of the only two unbeaten teams in the 55+ division of the CDMSBL.
The Cubs pounded out 13 hits, in plating 11 runs in five innings, while the Dodgers could only muster 4 hits, while scoring just 1 run against Cubs' starter, Mike Girard. Ron Lochner, Jerry Rosen, and Chris Dunn all had two hits each. Rosen and Lochner had 2 RBI's each and Dunn had 3 RBI's. Carlos Espada, Paul Miles, Mike Reutter, Mike Girard, Dan Hernandez, and Jim McQuade had the other hits for the Cubs. Jim Bradley had a booming double and scored the only run, while Brendan Hogan, Mark Callahan, and Greg Gougler had the other hits for the Dodgers.
The Cubs got 4 runs in the 1st, 5 runs in the 3rd, and 2 runs in the 5th, to take a 11-0 lead into the bottom of the 5th. With 2 outs and nobody on Bradley hit a loud double to left and was followed by a single from Gougler, putting runners on 1st and 3rd. Girard then walked Steve Jiampetti and Tim Burns to force in Bradley, but the game ended when Girard induced a fly ball to right for the final out. The rehydration session started early and lasted until the sun went down and the temperature started to drop.
Next up for the 3-0 Cubs is the resurgent Twins, on Thursday 05/23, at the A-Diamond. The 2-1 Dodgers have a bye week, next week, and will face those same Twins on Friday 05/31, at the A-Diamond.
God, I love this game!
