The Pirates went up quick scoring three on three hits and a spiders error in the top of the first off starter Darrell Duncan. The Arachnids scored four runs in the bottom of the first via five walks and a couple of base hits. Walks for the Pirate pitching staff were the big problem throughout much of the game. Anyone who has spent much time on the mound understands that this can happen now and then, with the result being many runs given up due to control issues. When all was said and done, the Pirates hit pretty well garnering 10 safeties. Jimmy Jasiewicz, Paul Peters, and Big Jim Ansel each had 2 hits for the visitors. The Arachnids had 12 hits as Lee Madsen led the way going 3-4 while Joseph Parker, Terrey McCarthy, and hobbled Jim Wing each had 2 hits. Both teams used 3 pitchers. Final score Arachnids prevail 16-7 on A Diamond.
