62 ARACHNIDS AND PEPPERS KNUCKLE DOWN

Wayne Nicholson and Bob Bolt squared off on the mound last night as the home team Peppers took on the visiting Arachnids. The spiders struck first in the top of the 1st scoring a run with a double by TJ Scorsone and an RBI single by Lee Madsen off the always challenging Bolt. Nicholsen dispensed the Peppers 1-2-3 in the bottom of the inning. Arachnids tack on a run in the top of the second as Terry McCarthy leads off with a walk, Jim Wing singles, Tom King moves the runners forward with a sac bunt and John Reel plates McCarthy with a hard hit sac liner to left. McCarthy can run. Fast. Peppers get one back in the bottom of the second as the spiders committed two errors but Nicholsen picked off the runner at second to end the threat.Spiders go down 123 in the top of the third. Arachnids added five more runs in the top of the fourth off reliever Dan Durban. Nicholson gave up the Peppers only hit of the night to Charlie boom boom Freer in the top of the fourth. A sharp line single to center. Dave Plew pitched a fine final three innings for the Peppers yielding only one hit and no runs over that period. Nicholson was stellar on the mound, giving up just one hit, one unearned run, striking out three, and walking 3 over 6 and 2/3 innings when his legs gave out. Lee Madsen came in on relief and retired the one better he faced on one pitch to end the game. Arachnids with nine hits led by Scorsone two hits and a double, Jimmy Wing two for two and two RBIs, and Joe Parker a double with two RBIs. Spiders prevail 7-1 improving their record to 9-2-1 while the Peppers fall to a deceptive 2-9. They have a lot of talent on the team. It flashes and one of these games it will all come together for them.
