The Twins and Dodgers met Monday evening for their 7:30pm playoff game under the bright lights at A-Diamond. On the mound for the Dodgers, Mark Callahan and for the Twins, Gary Webber. The Twins got the scoring going in the top of the first. After the Dodgers recorded the first 2 outs, Steve Rychick blasted a triple to LCF, then scored on a wild pitch, giving the Twins an early 1-0 lead. The Twins then proceeded to score 1 run in the 2nd inning, 3 in the third inning, 2 more in the 4th inning to build a 7-0 lead on 7 hits & 2 walks through the first 4 innings. In the top of the 5th the Twins added 2 more runs on 2 hits, 2 walks, a HBP, to build a 9-0 lead. In the bottom of the 5th, the Dodgers finally broke through scoring 1 run on a BB, HBP and single. After 5 innings Twins led 9-1. The Twins bats remained hot in the 6th inning on a cool evening, adding 2 more runs on 3 hits to bump the lead to 11-1. In the bottom of the 6th the Dodgers loaded the bases on 3 hits with no outs and avoided the 10-run rule by adding a run before the 3rd out was registered. Dennis Lane managed to keep the Twins scoreless in the top of the 7th. Training 11-2 entering the bottom of the 7th inning, the no quit Dodgers rallied to add 3 more runs on Walk and 3 extremely hard-hit balls; a Dennis Lane double, a Jim Bradley scorching liner to left field, and a Pat Alston blistering single to the Left Field to cut the deficit to 11-5. Twins' pitcher Gary Webber then got the next batter after Alston to pop up into an Infield Fly Rule out, and then struck out the last batter. Final score Twins 11 Dodgers 5. The Twins now advance to the semi-finals against the Cubs this Wednesday evening at A-Diamond.
