On a nicely groomed, but no lines ,New Scotland Field both teams kicked off the 2025 season in less than perfect weather. The visiting Twins struck first scoring three runs in the top of the first inning off Giants starter Ed Powell. Frank Owens singled to open the game, moved to second base when Steve RYCHCEK walked. Jeff Whitehead grounded out to first base moving runners to second and third with one out. Rick Saidenberg hit a high fly deep that gave trouble to the Giants right fielder. The ball dropped and two runs scored. Stefan Koutsakis walked, Gary Webber grounded into a fielders choice. Koutsakis was out at second and Saidenberg scored. New Twin Pat OLEARCEK grounded out 53and the inning was over. Twins up 30. Twins starter Gary Webber held the Giants to just one single and no runs over the first three innings. However, the Giants got on the board in the bottom of the fourth scoring three runs, all unearned, on a walk, a Twins 1 out error on a tailor-made double play ball, a sac fly and a triple by Joe KRAUSE. 3-3 ballgame. And thats the way it stayed when the game was called after seven full. Webber pitched a complete game for the Twins surrendering four hits, walking five, and striking out 8. Ed Powell went the first four innings for the Giants giving up 4 hits, 3 walks, 3 runs, 1 hit batter, and striking out 3. Jim Davis pitched the last three for the Giants gave up zero hits, one walk, zero runs, and struck out 2. Joe Krause led the Giants at the plate with a triple. Frank Owens had two hits for the Twins, and Ricky Saidenberg knocked in two runs with a single. I also need to mention, in my humble opinion, John REEL hit a line drive single on the first pitch he saw this season.3-3 tie.
