The Dodgers and Americans were able to play a make-up game the same week the originally scheduled game was cancelled! And, the weather was a lot better last night than it was on Monday. Win. Win!
The Americans struck first as Jackson ripped a double into the left field corner to score Finelli. A diving catch by Dennis Lane in LF stranded Jackson at 3B.
The Dodgers were quick to respond as Staulters, Careccia and Lane loaded the bases and Alston cleared the bases with a line drive to the fence. Maguire plated Alston for the Dodgers' fourth run. It was also the first of three runs the boys in blue would score in the game with two outs.
The top of the Americans' order produced again in the 3rd as singles by Page, Finelli and Jackson pushed two runs across. 4-3 Dodgers.
The Dodgers extended their lead as starting pitcher Atwell drove Bradley and Trinchillo home. 6-3 Dodgers.
The Americans tied the score in the 5th as the Dodgers bullpen tried to shake off some winter rust. Finelli, Jackson and Mueller all crossed the plate in that frame. With the bases loaded and two outs, Bradley made a running, over the shoulder catch along the 3B line to keep the score tied at 6.
In the bottom half of the 5th, Ball walked then sped around the bases to score on a triple from Careccia. 7-6 Dodgers.
In the top of the 6th and with darkness creeping in, Jackson had his third hit of the game and stole 2B. Mueller doubled down the RF line and the score was tied at 7.
In the bottom half of the 6th and final inning the Dodgers played team offense for the win. Alston led off with a bullet single. Bradley hit a cue shot and beat the throw to 1B. Marc Trinchillo placed a perfect bunt down towards 1B to put runners on 2B and 3B. Maguire had his second RBI as a Dodger with a solid single to left. Final score Dodgers 8 Americans 7.
