The arachnids came up first as the visitors and did not get the ball out of the infield in the top of the first against Yankees starter John WEBER. Paul Post leads off against arachnids starter Wayne Nicholsen in the bottom of the inning for the Yankees hitting a sharp single to left, pilfers second base followed by a Nardacci single. Carpenter lines out on a screamer to TJ Scorsone at third. Ron Smaka grounds out 63 plating Post. Ron Massaroni hits what appeared to be a single to left, but turned into a fielders choice as NARDACCI was thrown out 75 to end inning. 1-0 Yankees after 1. It remained 1-0 through 3 full as both starting pitchers had good command on the mound. Jim Edelman opened the top of the 4th for the spiders by grounding out sharply to short stop followed by Stefan Koutsakis who hit a long double the left. Darrell Duncan flies out deep to left field for the second out. TJ Scorsone singles bringing home Koutsakis . Ricky Saidenberg reaches on an infield error and Lee Madsen hits a hard line drive double right down the left field line bringing home Scorsone and Saidenberg. The inning ends as Terry McCarthy grounds out to first. Arachnids take the lead 3-1. More runs for the Arachnids in the top of the sixth as Ben Phillips leads off and earns a walk after going in the hole 02. Edelman is hit by a pitch and Koutsakis hits his second double of the game driving home Phillips. Duncan walks to load the bases with one out Saidenberg steps to the plate and drives a high fly deep deep to right field that Edelman foolishly thought would not be caught as he broke for home. well, the ball was caught and Edelman, was 2/3 of the way down the line had to go back towards third but Koutsakis had tagged at second and was bearing down on third. Relay came to second , Weber moved from the mound to the plate . The look from the relay went from third back to home back to third and thats when the runner broke to home again. Throw was a little short, took a hop just in front of Webers glove and popped in an out of the glove. Run scores without an attempted tag. 5-1 spiders after 5 1/2. Rosen opens the bottom of the sixth reaching on an error on the third baseman on a ball that was hit as hard as you could hit a ball when youre a big strong guy. Cerone follows with a single. Van Gelder makes the first out on a grounder to first. Next batter strikes out swinging. WEBER is hit by a pitch to load the bases with two outs. Poleto hits one back to Nicholsen to the left of Nicholsen who tags out the runner ending the inning. Nothing for the arachnids in the top of the seventh. Nicholsen seems to be getting sharper, retires Post on a 4-3 ground out. Strikes out NARDACCI looking and gets Carpenter on another 43 ground out to end the ball game. For the Yankees, NARDACCI had three of his teams five hits. The Arachnids also tallied five hits with KOUTSAKIS going 2-3, both doubles. MADSEN also had a double for the spiders. Final score, ARACHNIDS 5, Yankees 1. One error for the arachnids and two for the Yankees. NICHOLSEN struck out 4, hit 1 batter, and issued 0 walks. WEBER struck out 3, hit 1 batter, while walking 2. It was a pretty well played ball game taking only one hour and 35 minutes.
