The Cubs came out on top of the Dodgers Thursday night at Watervliet High School in a lopsided affair 15-0.
9 of the Cubs 12 hitters had hits, in a 13 hit attack. The Cubs hitters were patient for the second game in a row, as they also worked 8 walks in 5 innings. Chris Dunn, Jerry Rosen, PJ Martone, and Dan Hernandez all had 2 hits each. Carlos Espada, Paul Miles, Sherwin So, Ron Massaroni, and Mark Meyers had the other hits.
The Cubs pitching and defense did the rest. Ron Massaroni threw the first 3 innings, giving up just a walk in the 1st and a single to Jim Bradley in the second. The walk in the first was erased when Jerry Rosen made a perfect throw to second on an attempted steal by Harry Staulters. Ron faced just one batter over the minimum in his 3 innings, while striking out 2. Mike Girard came on for innings 4 and 5 and faced the minimum 6 batters, setting them down in order, striking out one.
The Cubs now sit atop the standings at 5-0, having made up all of their rainouts, and are ready for a tough stretch coming up where they will face the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place teams in 3 of the next 4 games, starting with the Twins next Tuesday night at the C-Diamond in Schenectady's Central Park.
