Whiz and Americans played a game at Watervliet last week. Joe Burns took the mound for the Whiz with Jeff Friedman coming on in relief. Eric Samarija picked up pitching duties for the Americans. In the top of the 1st the Americans threatened. They got a single by Mark Finelli with 1 out. Finelli proceeded to steal 2nd base. With 2 outs, Burns was able to pick off Finelli at 2nd to end the inning. Bottom of the 1st saw the Whiz score 1 run. With 1 out, Paul Graziano hit a single and stole second. With 2 outs, Mike Kane hit an RBI single. Samarija was able to pick off Kane at 1st to end the inning. Bottom of the 2nd had the Whiz score 3 more runs. 2 walks, a hit batter, along with singles by Ron McCarthy and Paul Scutieri and an infield error led to the Whiz runs. Top of the 3rd had the Americans get on the board. A single by Ed Potash and Dave Page led to a run scored. Bottom of the 3rd had the Whiz score 3 more runs. A double by Kane, a single by Gene Hallenbeck along with a walk and a sac fly led to the Whiz runs. Bottom of the 4th had the Whiz tack on another run on singles by Scutieri and Graziano and an error. Top of the 5th, Jeff Friedman came on in relief. The Americans scored another run on 2 walks, a fielding error and a single by Mike Aiello. Bottom of the 5th had the Whiz score 9 runs. Singles by Hallenbeck, Jim Hicks, McCarthy, Graziano, Jeff Friedman, Burns, a double by Jan Friedman and a walk led to the Whiz runs. Burns and Friedman combined to give up 5 hits, 6 K's and 3 BB's. Samarija gave up 15 hits, 2 K's, 6 BB's. For the Whiz, Graziano and Hallenbeck were 2-2. Ron McCarthy and Jim Hicks were 2-3. Mike Kane and Paul Scutieri were 2-4, Kane had a double as did Jan Friedman. The score after 5 innings was 17-2
