Whiz v Dodgers


The Whiz and Dodgers were able to play their game at the A Diamond where it was a cool 96 degrees at the start of the game. Top of the 1st with 1 out had Paul Graziano, Jim Hicks and Doug Reisinger reached on consecutive singles. Next batter reached on an error, followed by Paul Scutieri hitting a single. Whiz scored 4 runs in the top of the 1st. Bottom of the 1st had the Dodgers scoring. Harold Staulters led off with a single and moved to second on a pass ball. The next batter popped out to the pitcher. Dennis Lane, Pat Alston and Marc Trinchillo all singled, which led to a run and the bases loaded for the Dodgers. The next batter hit a line shot towards 3rd that was snagged by a diving play by the 3rd baseman, for 2 outs. The next batter grounded out to the 1st baseman which ended the Dodgers threat. Top of the 2nd had Pete Geannelis and Jan Friedman reach on singles. Joe Burns laid down a sac bunt moving the runners to 2nd and 3rd. Geannelis scored on a pass ball. Graziano hit a grounder to the 3rd baseman where the over zealous Jan Friedman tried to score and got caught in a run down for the 2nd out. Hicks was hit by a pitch and the next battered ground out to end the inning. Top of the 3rd with 2 outs Greg Mangione hit a single, stole 2nd and scored on a Geannelis single. Bottom of the 3rd had the Dodgers score. With 1 out, Joe Careccia hit a single and moved to 2nd when the next batter grounded out to the pitcher. With 2 outs, Alston hit a single and an error led to the 2nd run of the game for the Dodgers. Bottom of the 4th had Burns lead off with a single. After a line out to center for the 2nd out, Hicks reached on a single followed by the next batter reaching on an error. Gene Hallenbeck hit a triple to clear the bases and scored on a single by Greg Mangione. Top of the 5th had the Whiz add 2 more runs. Jan Friedman led off with a double, followed by a Burns single. Friedman scored on a pass ball and Burns scored on a ground ball to the infield. With 1 out Hicks and Reisinger reached base. The next batter hit a grounder to short and was thrown out at 1st, the base runner was called for interference with fielder and was called out to end the inning. Score was 12-2 going into the bottom of the 5th. Bottom of the 5th had Steve Marshall lead off with a double followed by Staulters with a single. The next batter flew out to center for the 1st out. Lane hit a double to left center that scored 2 runs. Burns was able to strike out the next batter for the second out. The next batter hit a grounder to short and the play was made on Lane going to 3rd for the final out of the inning. Score after 5, 12-4. Top of the 6th had 2 walks followed by a fly out for the Whiz. The next batter walked to load the bases with 1 out. Burns was hit by a pitch, followed by another walk. Hicks hit a bases clearing double to complete the scoring for the Whiz. Score was 17-4 going into the bottom of the 6th. With 1 out, John Weber hit a shot to the left center fence, but due to lack of cardio barely mustered a double. The next two batters grounded out to the infield ending the threat. Pitching for the Whiz was Joe Burns who gave up 4 runs on 10 hits, 2 K's and 0 BB. For the Dodgers, Lane was 2 for 3 with a double. Staulters and Alston were 2 for 3 as well. Weber and Marshall both had a double. Pitching duties for the Dodgers was shared by Jon Atwell, Don Ball and John Weber. They combined to give up 17 runs on 15 hits, 2 K, 4 BB and 2 HBP. For the Whiz, Hicks was 3-4 with a double. Burns and Geannelis was 2-3, Mangione was 2-2. Hallenbeck had a triple and Jan Friedman had a double. Final score was 17-4 after 6 innings.
