Two good baseball team squared off at B diamond on a beautiful evening for baseball, July 8, 2025. However, the biggest story of the evening was that it was the final game for Artie Gianakos. I have no idea how long Artie has been playing, but I think he started before I was born and Im over 70. All kidding aside, it was news to me when I heard before the game that this was it for the man. ARTIE was batting number 12 and came to the plate twice. First time he was called out looking. I do not think he agreed with the call but he took it with a stiff upper lip. However, on his second and final at bat in the sixth inning, he hit a beautiful opposite field clean single down the left field line driving in a run and keeping his club close in an inning that saw the Reds score 4 runs to make the game much tighter. I had heard during the game that Artie is 77 gonna be 78 later this year. Hes playing in the 55 and over division. Hell of a way to go out my friend. Over the long haul, one of the very best. I salute you Artie Gianakos. My friend.
Incidentally, the Twins won the game 9-6 but the night belonged to Artie.
