65 Americans-Arachnids. 4-27-26

The Arachnids and Americans squared off at B diamond last night. Perfect night for baseball, especially for this time of year. Mike Kane started for the Americans while Stefan Koutsakis was the Arachnids starter. Both pitchers threw complete games. Koutsakis pitched 2 innings for the spiders last season and no innings in 2024 as we exercised extreme caution to try to help his right shoulder heal. Bottom line in this game is that the Americans came away with a 2-0 victory. The game was scoreless going into the bottom of the 5th inning. However, a combination of three singles, one walk, and some extremely tall infield grass came together to produce the only two runs of the game. Koutsakis surrendered 6 hits, issued 3 walks, and hit one batter. Kane, with the victory, gave up 8 hits, no walks, and hit 1 batter. Each pitcher struck out 4. There was only one outfield fly out in the game and that was a deep shot by Arachnids Terry McCarthy in the fourth inning. As I mentioned earlier, the infield grass at B diamond last night was the tallest Ive ever seen any infield grass in a CDMSBL game. You guys who play the infield know what thats like when you have to try to deal with it as do the many guys who hit the ball real hard on the ground, but by the time it gets to the dirt, if they get to the dirt, theyre pretty much dead. Interesting to note, at least to me anyway, that when the Americans and Arachnids met to open the season last year, the Americans won by two runs, and that was the only loss of the season for the spiders as they won their next 17 games in a row. leading hitters for the Americans were Paul SCUTIERI with two singles and Mike Kane who had a double in the third inning. Greg Mangione, Mike Aiello, and Jim Bradley each singled. For the Arachnids, Lee Madsen went 3-3 and Tom King went 3-3. Pat Alston and TJ Scorsone both singled. There were no errors in the game..
