The Reds Doug Hall faced off against Brad Maione and the visiting Pirates.
Jim Sears led off for the Pirates and after reaching base, stole second moved to third on a passed ball. Kim Burns singled to score Sears giving the Pirates the early lead after half an inning. The Reds answered back quickly in the bottom of the first. Miles singled and scored on a triple by Friedman. Hall singled in Friedman and then Mitchell knocked in Hall. Griffen grounded to first plating Mitchell. Caputo reached and was followed by a Jasiewicz single. Knipper walked to load the bases and then Durbak singled to plate the 5th run and end the first with the Reds up 5-1.
Both teams went quietly in the second. And Hall continued in the third getting two comebackers and a K finishing his work after three allowing just 1 run on 1 hit with 2 Ks. Miles started off the bottom of the third for the Reds with another single and stole two bases. Friedman then hit his second triple of the game plating Miles with his second RBI. With one out Mitch hit a ball to short that pushed Friedman across. The inning ended with the score Pirates 1 - Reds 7.
Abrams came in for the Reds to pitch to the top of the order. Sears singled but was forced by the next batter and they traded places. With 1 out Meyers reached on a throwing error. With two on Kannelis and Kosek both singled to plate two more for the Pirates tightening things up a bit at 3-7 after three and a half. With one out in the bottom of the fourth the Reds bats got hot again with four consecutive singles by Durbak, Reel, Draves, and Paul Peters before a walk to CB Abrams. With 2 runs in and bases loaded Miles knocked in a run. Friedman followed with his third hit knocking in one and then Hall singled scoring the fifth run of the inning pushing the lead to 12-2 for the Reds.
After a leadoff single by Reagan in the fifth Abrams retired the side. Burns came in to pitch for the Pirates. The Reds got leadoff singles by Mitchell and Griffin but the next three batters went down quietly. Caputo started on the mound in the sixth for the Reds and the Pirates went down quietly. The Reds also went down quietly keeping the score 12-2.
In the seventh Joe Kosek led off with his second hit of the game. The next batter followed by hitting into a double play. With two outs Chuck Stanley, Bill Reagan and Kevin McAuley all walked. A throwing error, followed by a Ring single, and another error and suddenly it was 12-6 game with bases loaded. A determined pitcher then got the big K to end the game.
