reds 9, peppers 5 (tues.7/25)

on tuesday night in ravena, the peppers rallied - but, alas, not enough.

don't have the book here, but the essence is that we started with a makeshift infield - regular guys working or on vacation - and three errors later, the reds led 4-0, then by the second inning, with two more errors, 7-0. we have all taken lessons in teeth-gritting this year. but in the middle innings - don't have the scorebook here - we rallied to make 7-5, and virtually everybody got a hit. that, despite several chances to score, is how it stayed till the last inning when the reds using singles, walks and steals, added two more.

it's a truism: dropped baseballs are a fodder for comedy. or the source of managers' baldness.

one thought: for those of you going to ravena h.s., i found that the initial directions we got were simpler than the reality and that the reality is overlong. suffice, leaving from the center of albany and taking the speeding, tailgating, truck-rumbling thruway to exit 22 - and THEN 146 and 396 to 9w - is a 22-mile trip.

however, if you head out past american legion field and take 9w south, it's a nice winding trip - lots of greenery, rolling hills, pretty houses - and you're there in 12 miles. on the way home, you can ride with the window open and catch the mets on the radio

you choose.

also, the field, while smooth, wasn't lined or dragged, so if you go, wear extra padding on your backsides.

As always, a nice description of the scenery, miguelito.
I take 9W often and it really isn't that bad. For another option, from downtown Albany (S. Pearl Street) If you take RT 32 south to where RT 144 starts and take that south and turn onto RT 143, you then take 9W South (a left at the light) and continue until the HS is another scenic escape route. The only downside is there is intermittent service re: cell phone reception, but the Mets still come in pretty well.

Just a thought to reduce the road rage...
