Starting a new 38 team

We are attempting to start a new team this year in the over-38 division. The core of our team consists of a few players that have been in the league for a few years. Some of our players were original members of The Harlem Shaskys, a team from NYC that was formed in 1995. Check out the website for that team at http://www.harlemshaskys.com/shaskys24.swf The Shasky's are still going strong, and every year we play an intra-squad game at Abner Doubleday Field in Cooperstown which never fails to astound and entertain the many spectators that are drawn to the buzz surrounding the event in that town every year. The last three years I have taken players from the Capital District to participate in that game and all have come away with a great experience and a very warm feeling from just one game of Shasky style baseball. The spirit and winning ways and attitude are just what we would like to bring to this league. We are looking for some players to join in the fun, the winning, and the good sportsmanship that was always a main part of Shasky baseball down in the Big Apple. If anyone is interested in more info, please email me at tgrocki58@hotmail.com or give me a call at 518-452-3604. In Shasky land, everybody plays, everybody has a good time, and more often than not, winning takes place.

Thanks,

Tony Grocki

That's interesting because I was under the impression that only one new team would be joining the league this year in the 38 division??

Herb,

Maybe you know something I don't know. I have told two board members about this, going back a few months ago. I have not been told anything to discourage this effort. I am in the process of trying to get a field, I have a number of good prospects to that end. I also have recruited about 15 players so far, only three of which played in this league last year, myself included. I intend to recruit more players so that a full roster can be compiled. I have been in contact with Kevin Jackson about this, and he knows me from my years as a teammate on the Highlanders. Please tell me if I should know something I don't know at this point, as a lot of time and effort is being put into this endeavor, and favors of the political and professional nature are being brought to bear on the effort to secure a field here in Guilderland. It's a very serious effort, and I don't want any bad surprises headed my way at this point.

Thanks,

Tony Grocki

Herb is mistaken on this. At the 38 meting held last week, we did in fact admit one new team to the league. However, Kevin Jackson also specifically noted that another team (yours I guess) was interested in joining and that team's request will be adddressed at the next 38 meeting.

Contact Kevin for info

No offense to anyone intended I assure you all. I think we can all chalk this up to the enthusiasm of the season to come and I recall Ed mentioning you this winter. Sorry

No problem. I just got a little bit freaked is all, I want to take careful steps and do this right so all these new recruits don't get disappointed. They are all getting pumped up a bit. Most of them had no idea this kind of league even existed.

Hey, Tony

Now you know why Herb has those specific instructions regarding having a Cardiac.

That's if he don't give someone else one first...

Anyway now that we know that the Shamskies are pending who be that "other" 38 team. Ya know us peasants would like to know or are they still auditioning for American Idol...???
