is there anyone solely responsible for contacting umpires before scheduled games to ensure their presence? should there be a need for one? are we relying on a small pool of umps to handle our games? this has been an issue recently at 45 and 55 games, and probably needs to be addressed. if we are relying o...

This game was scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at Swift Road, which, of course, is the morning after a rain-soaked Friday. No one thought this game would get played. But it did. The grounds crew there should be working Yankee Stadium. Unbelievable job. When we arrived, the guy working the field was ju...

Last nights game between the mets and humminbirds was a close one. Down by 2, I led off the last inning with a hit to ss. I ran hard and like most times I can beat out the throws. Needless to say I beat it out but was called out. Just like other base runners hustling down the line, I touched the bag and I motioned...

Sorry I have to go this route, but I'm left no other option. I've brought this issue to officials of the umpire's association every year for at least 4 years now, and nothing has been resolved. On Sunday at the Satellite field between the Vets and Hornets, a Vets player ran into our 2nd-baseman as he t...

What a disgrace! On a beautiful sunny day with game-time still hours away we were forced to cancel our game today at SUNY. Carlos was at the field at 11:00 and the "head groundskeeper" instructed us that we could not remove the puddles and apparently he was unwilling to as well. What a joke.....

Early morning rain has left New Scotland Town Park under water and the rain is not likely to stop. This has caused me to call the cancellation early, in hopes that we can get a make-up date for next week. It is bad enough that these two teams were only scheduled to play just this once, but I would like to make...

The Silver Marlins pushed their record to 10-5-1 with a 9-1 victory over the White Sox Thursday night at West Albany. Jim Ansel and Chuck Sohl combined on a two-hitter. The only White Sox run was unearned. Jim gave up a double to Fred Phillips in the second and Chuck gave up a single to Fred in the sixth. Mr...

Friday night at New Scotland, the Silver Marlins beat the White Sox 15-1, in a rain soaked 5-inning affair. Last night the Silvers and Shasky's got together and beat the weather for a 5 inning game. The Marlins came out on top in that game 2-0. I would like to thank the umpires in both games, as they hung in...
