55 Twins And Americans—Smoke Gets In Your Eyes
(Preview)
To play the game on pristine A Diamond last night, when, between the smoke from Canada and thunderstorms in the area, was a gift. After losing to the Twins back in May, the rising Americans took the second game 9-6 last night. Both teams had 13 hits. The deciding factor was a bases loaded double by new Ame...

Game talk
(Preview)
For a model of terrific scorekeeping and game summary let me direct your eyes to Arachnids' manager Jim Edelman's account, a few entries back, of his team's 6-4 victory over the Americans in an over-62 game at Watervliet High on Monday.. The only thing Jim missed was to record the comments of the seven...

The Matinee Division kicked off the 2023 season today at the A Diamond in Schenectady on a hazy, smokey overcast day with 24 players in attendance. Joe Careccia led off the game with a line drive single to center and eventually came around to score giving JKs team their first and only lead of the day. McQ...

Great Call Gene!
(Preview)
Gene Hallenbeck had to make the call whether or not to send players to Watervliet High School to play the second regular season meeting between the Whiz Kids and the Cubs. He was hesitant to cancel, but the combo of the dirty air and an iffy weather forecast helped Gene make the right call. The game was ca...

Oh, them fly balls
(Preview)
Because I left my scorebook in the team's equipment bag, and because that bag is now miles from my desk, I am forced to rely on memory and imagination to reconstruct what I can of the over-62's Americans' 14-1 victory over the Peppers on a very pleasant, blue sky Tuesday evening, May 23rd, at the A-Diamo...

Dodgers sink the Jolly Roger

The Dodgers scored a dozen runs in the 3rd inning to roust a boat-load of Pirates. 17 Pirates showed up to Watervliet looking to pillage or plunder or whatever Pirates do. They did hit the ball hard, ran the bases aggressively and made some very good defensive plays. But, arghh! Greg Gougler hit two bom...

Cubs move to 5-0 with a win over the Twins.
(Preview)
On a beautiful night for baseball at New Scotland on Tuesday night, The Cubs bested up the Twins 13-3. The Cubs pushed 13 runs across on 15 hits and two walks, in just 4 innings. Now, probably half of those hits were "well placed -- not on the barrel" hits, if you know what I mean. Jeff Whitehead (Twins star...
