Rockets 16, Pirates 1
(Preview)
The score was incorrectly posted. The fact is: Rockets 17, Pirates 1. I'd provide details except that I'm bleeding out of my ears right now. I may need to lie down.
The Rockets scored 6 in the 3rd and 7 in the 5th. But eliminate those two bad innings and, er, well, it still wasn't close. We got crushed,...

Mon DH Vets/Hornets
(Preview)
In a Monday evening, that was filled with great anticipation, as the Veterans battled the Hornets. Tickets were not sold, so that everyone that wanted to witness this event could do so. I'm happy to say, everyone that wanted to come, were there. The first game featured the Hornet's elite lefthander,...

Florida 47+ wood bat II
(Preview)
From Steve Sigler:
Unfortunately we did have to cancel the 47+ Wood Bat Division due to lack of
interest. There were only 2 definite teams and 2 others that expressed mild
interest. I tried to contact you on Friday and I think Brian left a message
for John Reel as well.
We will attempt to h...

I am playing in the 47 division of the Labor Day tourney, but am organizing a 38 team so some of my Fordian teammates who want to play have a home.
So far, we have Jack Perry, Billy Smith, Joe Hauser, Don McCann of the Fordians.
I have one Yankee player and possibly two others, plus Matt Kelly of the Humm...

Playoffs - Round 2
(Preview)
Behind the starting pitching of Jim Ansel, hitting of Chuck Sohl, and relief pitching of John Martin, the Silver Marlins beat the Yankees 8-4. Some super defense up the middle by Randy Craft and Chris Elliot helped the Marlins pitchers squash a couple of Yankee rallies. Jim Walters hit the ball hard a...

Highlanders 7 - A's 1
(Preview)
The Highlanders "walked" past the A's 7-1. Literally. The A's pitching allowed more walks (12) than hits (7) + 2HBP. TJ Scorsone led the Purple H with three hits.
John Kalinski pitched a gem giving up three hits, walking two, striking out two and one HBP.

Behind the strong pitching of Richie Knaupp, the Pirates diced the Peppers by a score of 10-1. Richie's shutout bid was spoiled with two outs in the seventh on a sharp single by Boudreau.
Hitting stars for the Bucs were Bob Yakatan and Ron Smaka (2 hits each), plus timely contributions from Pete Za...

Marlins/Pirates Closing Thoughts
(Preview)
Just a few closing notes about the game and the season:
* You can't help but admire the way the Marlins play. And yes, John Martin put it well, Chuck Sohl was a one-man wrecking crew last night. A good man and a hell of a ballplayer. But three other long-time Marlins, aged as the hills, made small plays...

Marlins 4, Pirates 0
(Preview)
No time to write, just wanted to get the score up here since I know this game has seeding implications for many teams.
Anyway, gents, good luck in the playoffs, stay healthy, and thanks for another well-played, competitive season.

2 games: yankees 4, peppers 3; fordians 7, peppers 6
(Preview)
ah, those one-run losses. i don't know how many the peppers have this year, but memory says it's about 5 or 6.
quick petition to kevin jackson: for the playoffs, we want to add one more player, if we may: his name is mariano rivera. (wonder if he'll work for free red peppers?)

WhizKids 1, Veterans 0
(Preview)
Darrell Duncan of the WhizKids and Artie Gianakos of the Veterans hooked up in a classic pitchers' duel, with the WhizKids winning 1-0. It was scoreless until one out in the bottom of the 7th, when pinchrunner Deane Fish scored from 3rd on a wild pitch. Darrell and Artie were especially tough with runn...
